Description

Cloud Mount - Camera Vibration Isolator System

The RigWheels Cloud Mount camera vibration isolator system is a practical and versatile vibration isolation system for handheld gimbal stabilizers. First released in 2016, this is the original gimbal vehicle isolator system.

The Cloud Mount Camera Vibration Isolator allows your handheld gimbal to work more effectively and with less strain on its motors and bearings. In the same way that Handheld Gimbal Stabilizers have drastically reduced the time required to achieve smooth dynamic camera movement, the Cloud Mount tremendously reduces the amount of time necessary and the complexity involved with mounting a vibration isolator system to a vehicle.

Now in 2024, there are lots of options available for gimbal rigging.  What makes this camera vibration isolator unique? SPEED of setup.

This is an all-in-one camera vibration isolator solution and usually requires no additional grip and rigging hardware to implement. Other camera vibration isolator systems rely extensively on third-party rigging and hardware which drastically increases the time necessary to get up and rolling and increases the cost of a working system. The Cloud Mount (when purchased complete with case) can be deployed to its standard configuration and ready for your gimbal in under one minute. With a small reconfiguration, you can change to a 'sidecar" or "underslung" position.

Compatibility

Movi (with Ninja Star plate or our Movi adapter plate) Ronin original, M, MX with our (or a 3rd party) Ronin Adapter Plate Ronin 2 (using the Universal Adapter included with the system) Ronin RS2/RS3 (using the DJI "Ronin Expansion Base Kit") Other gimbals using 1/4-20" and 3/8" mounting holes on the Cloud Mount.

Our RigMount magnets are the key to the fast and easy setup of the Cloud Mount. All magnets are not created equal. RigMount magnets have stainless steel studs which make them very strong and resistant to corrosion as well as a proprietary rubber casing which we have refined over many years.  8 Magnets in the DSLR package provide up to 400lb of pulling force. That is a really large number but in real-world conditions, it is an appropriate measure.

Our "standard" option with 16 magnets provides up to 800lb of pulling force.  The magnets are cased in rubber so they won't damage the surface you are mounting to. For some surfaces suction is necessary and every option includes 8 of our standard suction cups and vacuum suction cups are available for the most demanding applications.

As with all RigWheels products, there are many different ways you can configure components depending on the shot you're trying to achieve. What makes the Cloud Mount camera vibration isolator markedly unique is the versatility of the parts and the degree of fine-tuning and customization possible. With our patent-pending design, you can build up the system to accommodate ANY gimbal/camera combination using standard cable "wire rope".

The standard cable requirement for a Ronin-M with DSLR is 4, 1/4" sections of cable. 8, 1/4" sections will support a standard Ronin with a mid to full-size camera. 16, 1/4" sections will support approximately 65 pounds. The camera vibration isolator of this system can use up to 24 sections of cable of up to 7/16" in diameter. (we would love to see a photo of a setup that actually requires that capacity) Because you are able to "let in" or "let out" the cable, you can fine-tune the resistance necessary for your setup.

You want the camera vibration isolator loose enough to absorb all of the bumps and vibration but strong enough not to fail under the weight of the camera and gimbal. The Clould Mount gives you the ability to find that perfect balance of resistance, not only for the camera and gimbal but also for the terrain on which you will be operating.

We continually build on the functionality and versatility of parts and products and the Cloud Mount camera vibration isolator is a perfect example of RigWheels goal to provide practical, sensible solutions to an industry with complex production equations.

I find it amazing how simple the rig is, that even at a red light we could jump out and make position adjustment.

We just used the system on two different music video shoots. It worked amazing! The video we captured turned out better then we ever expected!”

— Mike Caudle: Luminary Creative

There are many reasons to love the rig, but I cannot stress enough the fact that it also integrates with all of the other tools from RigWheels and that is just fantastic!

FAQs

How do I adjust the cabling?

You can either add/remove cables to adjust the stiffness of the mount or shorten/lengthen the cables by pushing them in/out of the cable clamps.

You want the mount as "soft" as possible to absorb the most vibration but depending on speed, position, terrain etc... how soft you can make it would be different.

Can I use the Cloud Mount on a different kind of vehicle.

The Cloud Mount has been used on boats, helicopters, trains, dog-sleds and a whole lot more. It is a very versatile mounting/isolation platform.

What makes the Cloud Mount different than ____ isolator?

There are certainly a lot of isolator options available now. The Cloud Mount is quick and practical. It is designed for on-location production and enables you to get great shots quickly without the time-drain of multi-point rigging.

Can I use a regular tripod head.

You can use regular tripod heads with the Cloud Mount but you would want to remove the isolator in that scenario. These are the same components as are used in RigWheels other "hard-mounts" and can easily be reconfigured for that purpose.

Can I use the Cloud Mount to isolate ____?

Because of the cabling setup, the Cloud Mount is generally used on moving vehicles/platforms. If you are trying to isolate something in a stationary environment, the PT-Zero may be a solution. Please contact us about any alternative uses you may be interested in.
